Napier Girls’ High School Academic Plus Programme

This is a new programme at Napier Girls’ High School, to offer either specialized training or a range of outdoor and recreation experiences to International and selected domestic students.

The programmes will operate on Fridays, from lunchtime, but may extend into the weekend or start earlier in the week by special arrangement and will be run by experienced, qualified instructors who meet Health and Safety standards. Of course, the programmes are dependent on weather conditions. Alternative options will be available if necessary.

Programme A: Specialised Sports training

Is available each week in hockey, sailing, athletics, rowing or golf. Other sports by special rrangement.

Offered in Terms 1, 2, 3 and 4 on a single term or consecutive basis.

Comprises

  • Specialised coaching
  • Skills training at the appropriate level
  • Fitness training (including gym membership if appropriate)
  • Competition experiences where possible

Programme B: Water Sports and Tramping

Offered in Term 1 (February to April) and Term 4 (October to December)

Comprises

  • Lessons and practice in sailing at Napier Sailing Club
  • Surfing lessons and practice
  • Complete the Tongariro Crossing - the most popular one-day tramp in NZ
  • Windsurfing at Pandora Pond
  • One other activity of the student’s choice

Programme C: Recreation and Culture

Offered in Term 2 (May to July) and Term 3 (July to September)

Comprises

  • Three day trip to explore either Rotorua or Wellington
  • Horseriding
  • A marae visit to learn about and experience ti kanga Maori
  • A farm visit to experience rural life
  • Learn to play the ukulele! (like a small guitar)

A student may be able to take part in a combination of programmes, consecutively. Some programmes will be co-educational and include students from other local high schools.

Academic Plus Programme fee

Prices vary depending on the activity. These activities are optional.

NZ$ 14,600 per year tuition fee, including registration
NZ$ 13,500 per year (46 weeks) for boarding in Hewett House 
NZ$ 11,270 per year (46 weeks) homestay accommodation

NZ$   1,500 Activity fee
To be held in trust for all school related expenses, such as subject fees and equipment, examination fees, stationery, music fees, field trips, etc. Any unused money in this account will be refunded at the end of the year, or at the end of the student’s period of study with us.
