Outdoor Short Courses in New Zealand

Outdoor education is an exciting and extremely rewarding industry in New Zealand. Being skilled in outdoor education enables people to work in many fields – from teaching in schools or working in outdoor pursuit centres, to being adventure tourism operators and – given the right experience –  in management. Come and learn from some of the country’s most experienced staff in outdoor education and encounter New Zealand’s many unique environments. From oceans to mountain ranges outdoor education students will be among them.

Short course in Cultural Tourism (13 weeks)
Fee: NZ$ 6,500 (€ 4,300*)
Graduates from this course will have learned how to analyse how New Zealand is marketed offshore, and how to explore cultural tourism at work in a variety of cultural tourism experiences in New Zealand.

Certificate in Seamanship (14 weeks)
Fee: NZ$ 13,400 (€ 8,400*)
The Certificate in Seamanship is a one semester programme that is part of Year One of the Diploma in Nautical Science. Some subjects form part of the Diploma in Marine Engineering.

National Certificate in Tourism (Core Skills) (14 weeks)
Fee: NZ$ 8,450 (€ 5,600*)
You will learn to use industry software such as the Amadeus Airline Computer Reservations System and will develop improved interpersonal, technical and sales skills. You will be prepared for customer service roles in the travel industry including in a travel agency, airline and airport.

Certificate in Outdoor Education (28 weeks)
Fee: NZ$ 18,000 (€ 11,445*) 2013 price
Whether you’re a keen beginner with general outdoor experience or already have considerable technical experience under your belt, the Certificate in Outdoor Education will increase your skills and challenge you. Our ratios and teaching experience mean we can help you progress at your level, pushing you further for more challenge or breaking it down if it’s all new to you. To augment the practical subjects and round out your skill set we’ll spend some time in the classroom studying; risk assessment and management, meteorology, environmental science, digital media, communication skills, tikanga Maori, leadership and facilitation, outdoor first aid, pursuit theory, trip planning, exercise science, work and study skills.

Certificate in Ecotourism (34 weeks)

Ecotourism is one of the smallest but fastest growing sectors of our tourism industry. Around 2000 to 3000 new jobs are expected to be created in the sector in the next five years as more people demand sustainable, eco-friendly holidays. Ecotourism Involves: Nature based activities; Interpretation of our natural and cultural environment; Promoting sustainable tourism; Working alongside communities

Certificate in Ski Parol (30 weeks)
Fee: NZ$ 18,000 (€ 11,445*) 2013 price
This popular programme is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to enter the Ski Patrol industry. It is held in high regard by the Heads of Ski patrol within New Zealand and includes a four week placement for students with a real ski patrol department. This is where students compound the skills learnt with their tutors and is probably one of the longest and most fun filled job interviews ever.

Certificate in Superyacht Crewing (12 weeks) Please ask for fees
The Certificate in Superyacht Crewing will open up your world to opportunities in the maritime industry. There is a need for qualified and professional people in this ever growing industry.

Entry requirements:
All certificates require and English language level of at least IELTS 5.5. Some certificates have specific admission or selection criteria, please enquire with StudyNewZealand for specific information.
