New Zealand Film Academy and Digital Media Academy, Auckland

Locations

The New Zealand Film Academy offers aspiring film makers the opportunity to get practical industry training from professionals. The 16 week course take place in Auckland - a growing industry location for filmmaking.

The New Zealand Film Academy believes the focus should be in two crucial areas: education through experience and the importance of narrative. Keep it simple. Create an emotional attachment with the viewer and move the audience. This useful guidance is from tutors who are active specialists in the industry. The philosophy behind the New Zealand Film Academy teaching produces encouraging results for the student with advanced placement in the industry. The New Zealand Film Academy is a department of Edenz Colleges which is the registered private training establishment.

We have no full time tutors. Our tutors are active specialists within the local film industry, at the top of their game and ready to give real-world and up-to-date guidance. Not only do students respect tutors who have their own current careers, but we also believe that the up-to-the-minute anecdotal advice they receive is key to them leaving the academy as employable graduates. We have a comprehensive cross-section of people to call on as tutors, from various disciplines within the film and television industry.

Our NZ Digital Media Academy (NZDMA) aims to make you the best in your field, something which is grounded in fact as the NZDMA has maintained an impressive graduate employment rate. Our students learn complete production processes, from concept to final output. In addition to learning the latest skills and techniques, our students train with the latest cutting-edge software. As a leading Digital Media institute we have a strong relationship with animation and creative professionals. For instance, we have a close and unique relationship with Huhu Studios (Snells Beach, Guangzhou, Beijing & Taipei). We have had recent visits from: Weta Digital, Yukfoo, Oktobor, Gameloft and Darkroom. Guest speakers from these studios provide our students with insight into the latest trends, encouragement to higher success and critique of their work.

The Academies ares located in New Zealand's largest city, Auckland. A cosmopolitan, multi - cultural city of 1.3 million people, where most live within half an hour of beautiful beaches, boasting harbours, mountain ranges, numerous tramping trails, 48 volcanic cones and more than 50 islands. Add a temperate, sunny climate, outstanding food, wine and shopping and you’re well on the way to getting an idea of Auckland.
