International Students at
Lincoln High School -
Subjects & Courses

The Junior School All Year 9 and 10 students study English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Health Education and a selection of option subjects.

The Senior School Year 11 - All students study English or ESOL, Mathematics and Science. They also select two option subjects.
Year 12 - English or ESOL is compulsory. Students may choose another four subjects to study.
Year 13 - Students study five subjects of their own choice. However, English or further ESOL is highly recommended for all international students.

Class Placement In Years 9 and 10 we "broad band" classes so that each class has a range of abilities but is made up of students whose learning rates are similar. We provide small-group tuition for students who need extra assistance in the core subjects, while our extension class provides added challenge for students with fast learning rates. We offer individual tuition to students experiencing difficulties in Reading or Mathematics.

Class placement in Years 11 to 13 is largely based on each student's choice of option subjects, which are selected from the wide range of courses offered.

International Students – ESOL English support for international students is available in the form of timetabled classes. The levels available are:
•    Elementary
•    Intermediate (Level 1 NCEA English)
•    Upper Intermediate (Level 2 NCEA English)

Individual needs will also be considered when programmes for these students are planned. It is important, however, that students wanting to gain national qualifications in mainstream subjects have an intermediate level of English at the time of enrolment.
