New Zealand visa application required documents

See our page on insureance abroad!

Before you make your visa application, ensure the following documents are available:

  • A written offer of a full-time place on a course that’s approved by the NZQA. (OUR responsibility)
  • Evidence that the student can cover the living costs while in New Zealand
  • Proof of language proficiency in any case other than a language course.

For courses less than nine months the student will need access to

  • NZ$ 1,250 for each month of your stay OR
  • NZ$    500 for each month if the accommodation is already paid (the student needs evidence of pre-paid accommodation) OR
  • a letter from the education provider saying that accommodation and other living costs are included in the course costs already paid.

For courses of more than nine months the student will need access to

  • NZ$ 15,000 per year (Evidence of funds can be bank drafts, bank statements with your name on it or letters of credit.)
  • A pre-paid return ticket back to your country or additional funds to buy a ticket
  • Payment of all fees for the course taken
  • Offer of accommodation
  • A passport that‘s valid for at least 3 months after the date you plan to leave New Zealand
  • A Medical and Chest X-ray Certificate (less than 3 months old) if you’re staying in New Zealand for more than 12 months, and a police certificate if you plan to be here for more than 2 years. A police certificate is required from the country of citizenship, as well as from any country in which the student lived 5 years or more since age 17. Police certificates must be no more than 6 months old when      submitting the application.

The conditions of a student visa means the student must:

  • attend class at the place (education provider) written on the student visa
  • make academic progress while in New Zealand, as determined by the education provider
  • pay the fees for the study or training

The student visa may be cancelled if the student:

  • is not in New Zealand for the purpose stated (i.e., you’re not studying)
  • receive income for work without the permission of Immigration New Zealand (INZ) (the 20 hours the student is allowed to work, he needs to get a permit!)
  • commit a crime

The student should always ensure that the student visa is current and note when it expires so that it can be renewed in time. The student visa will only be renewed if the student attends the course enrolled in.

STUDYNEWZEALAND.EU will guide the student through this process, but is ultimately not responsible for approval or rejection of the visa.
