Glenfield College (age 13-18) Glenfield, Auckland

Locations

Established in 1969, Glenfield College is a state, co-educational secondary (years 9-13) school on the North Shore of Auckland. It is a medium sized school with a roll of around 1000 students, so it is large enough to offer a wide range of academic courses and outside the classroom activities, yet small enough to have a personal touch. Students are treated as individuals and their study programmes are tailored to their academic needs, ability levels and interests.

The school has a proud record of academic achievement, above the average for similar schools. Over the years, it has nurtured a number of students who have excelled in external examinations. Classrooms focus on student inquiry and learning in a supportive environment.

Glenfield College has an outstanding reputation for the performing arts and has recently built a theatre of professional standard. Sporting achievements are also a feature of the school with a strong emphasis on both participation and excellence for students’ fitness and health. The school has large playing fields, tennis and netball courts, surrounded by mature trees and bush.

The school has the full range of resources you would expect within a modern secondary school in New Zealand. There is an excellent library and plenty of computer and Internet access. There are specialist rooms such as science laboratories, catering rooms and an automotive engineering workshop. Classrooms are bright and well-maintained, and every endeavour is made to accommodate a student’s request for study options.

Glenfield – The Centre of the North Shore
The North Shore is very well-resourced with amenities such as leisure centre, swimming pools, libraries, parks and places to enjoy its natural assets such as golf ranges, boating and sporting clubs. There are large shopping centres with bus networks and ferry services into Auckland City. The North Shore has two major universities and a number of other tertiary education establishments. Many of its secondary schools enjoy excellent reputations.

Within Glenfield itself, there are many amenities of interest to teenage students. Many international students use the Glenfield Leisure Centre just five minutes away from Glenfield College. It has a well-resourced gymnasium and excellent swimming pool. The Leisure Centre is next door to a large shopping mall with shops and cafes much visited by students.
