Gisborne Girls' High School students, Turanga Wahine are our future: they are confident, connected, actively involved, accomplished lifelong learners. International students from many countries study at the school. Specialised English classes are available for the teaching and practice of English language skills. Gisborne Girls High School also has regular International exchanges. Many Girls High students have international experiences as exchange students or as members of student tours to countries such as Japan, Tahiti, New Caledonia, France, Spain, and South America.

Gifted and Talented students at GGHS are offered a range of extra-curricular opportunities, as well as extension within the classroom. All of our faculties offer extension learning opportunities to junior and senior students, both in and out of class time. Whether your gifts or talents are in the realm of physical activities, artistic and creative endeavours, or are of an academic focus, there are learning and extension opportunities on offer to meet your needs.

Sports at Gisborne Girls’ High School
At Gisborne Girls' we pride ourselves on providing quality sport and physical activity programmes. GGHS sports teams and individuals achieve considerable success at local, regional and national levels. The school provides opportunities for all girls to participate in sport and active recreation, regardless of their abilities or previous experience. They are coached and managed by dedicated volunteer staff, parents and members of the community. We feel that sporting involvement complements curriculum based learning and is hugely influential in developing well rounded, healthy young women and a positive school environment. The school is focused on increasing and improving sporting opportunities through improved partnerships with our school community and local clubs and sports organisations.

Kapa Haka and Pacifica Performing Arts
Cultural involvement is a key strength of Gisborne Girls High School with proud traditions of Kapa Haka and newly re-developed Pacifica performance group. Turanga Wahine Turanga Tane focus on the development of Maori performing arts and are well known for their regional and national successes. Both groups combine the male and female cultural strengths from Gisborne Girls High School and Gisborne Boys High School creating a vibrant platform for cultural expression and recognition.

Tairawhiti Services Academy, A Career Journey
The TSA programme is a 12 month co ed journey that aims to integrates military skills into the academic syllabus and to better prepare students for work opportunities within but not limited to the army, navy, air force, police, fire department and customs service open to Year 11-14 students. The programme philisophy is driven by intangible terms such as uncompromising values, positive attitude, honest behaviour and a humble respect for people and assets. The military component provides students with the necessary tools to make sound decisions therefore increasing quality of life and reducing perceived learning barriers.

NZ$   8,000 two terms ( one smester) tuition fee
NZ$ 11,750 three terms tuition fee
NZ$ 15,500 four terms (one year) tuition fee

NZ$ 300 per week homestay fee (NZ$ 500 annual placement fee)
