Upper Hutt College, Upper Hutt (age 13 – 18)

Locations

Upper Hutt College is a co-educational New Zealand high school, founded in 1962. It is located 20 minutes by car from the centre of Wellington city and has a roll of about 1100 students. Upper Hutt is surrounded by nature on the edge of the capital city in a beautiful valley setting, between a river and tree covered hills, withmany parks, including the wonderful Kaitoke Regional Forest Park. Wellington city centre, cafes, art galleries and museums are only 35 minutes by train from Upper Hutt.

The harbour side beach of Eastbourne is 20 to 25 minutes away by car. Oriental Bay, on the harbour and in the city, is 25 minutes away. You can get to the beaches of the Kapiti Coast in 35 minutes by car. There are also several swimming spots on the Hutt River, just a few minutes walk from the school.

Our students enjoy a safe, supportive and creative learning environment, where a sense of community is fostered within our House system and all students have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills.

We are a school with a tradition of excellence in academic achievement, sport, cultural activities and the performing arts. A wide variety of subjects at all levels caters for our diverse population of students and an extensive extra-curricular programme offers all students the opportunity to represent the school, follow a passion or simply enjoy an activity with friends, new and old.

Sport

Sport is popular with many students at Upper Hutt College and there are many sports available for students to be engaged in. We have a Sports Co-ordinator, Brad Marshall, who helps to organise and promote the many sports opportunities that we have here. These range from the more traditional sports such as netball, rugby, soccer and basketball, through to dragon boating, fencing and Ulimtae Frisbee.
